Lily is on Holiday! On Instagram too!

What a bad bad blogger I am, it's been almost 2 months since my last post huh? I am so sorry but I'll write more next year promise (my new year resolution hehe). Anyway, the reasons why I didn't write for a long time are...

1. End of the term tests and assignments
Those assignments really drained my energy. For my main studio assignment, I had to make a set of tableware and 9 basic forms structure with handbuilt technique. And then I had to make a tote bag for my fashion accesories class. Then, fashion illustration for fashion management class; decal and glaze application for pottery decoration class; a company profile and research on entrepreneur for craft entrepreneurship class; and bunches of papers for the other classes.. Hahaha, I just finished with the last paper, and I'm soooooo relieve! Woohooo!

The reversed side of the tote bag (yes it is reversible!)

2. Finishing the orders
Yep, last month I got an order from my friend Dika to make a couple knitted sling bags for his friend marriage anniversary. It was great, the only issue I got was how to attach the zipper nicely to the a bag with dimension (never really done that before). I did a few experiment and finally found a way to do it and I am so happy with the result!!
attaching the zipper, yep by hand!

The first one..

The second one!

3. Holiday!!
Yeah, I'm on holiday now! I flied to Bali on the 17th of December (before my end of the term test actually over lol), so I bring my stuffs to finishing my assignment here. I even need to sent my tote bag way back to Bandung to let my friend pass it to my lecturer haha. Anywayyy, why suddenly I came to Bali? The answer issss, my beloved lunchmate is comin all the way to Bali, Indonesia! Yeah, I meant that, my lunch mate back then when I was still in Arkansas. She is comin with her boyfriend and friend, and we're spending good times here in Bali! In addition, tomorrow, we will go to Lombok and Gili Trawangan Island! How that sound?? Guhhh-reattt! We love the beaches and the foods and everything :)

Any way if want to catch more of my holiday pics and my daily life photos, please do follow my instagram account @lmeilani :D You'll find how I livin my suppah amazing life through pictures there! hohoho.

And yeah, that's all for now, this post is the last post in 2013 so I hope you guys have a great new year! Happy new year! Happy vacation!!!

"Mary and Max" (so far the best movie I can found)

Well, eventhough I wrote "so far the best movie I can found", in fact I watched it last night. Ha ha.

Mary and Max is a clay-animated black comedy-drama (this is how wikipedia explained it), written and directed by Adam Elliot. On its website, written that the production took almost five years to finished, well a super long time but the result just worth it. It is a stop motion animation, and yes I told you, they used clay, and just imagine how they made all the scenes and episodes by pinched the clay all day and night long, sewed the costumes for the clay-characters, made the expression, took the photos, and made in into one solid and awesome movie. As a pottery student, I just really amaze how they can do it, crazy!

The story itself it's about a 9 years old australian girl whose her family is pretty much messed up (a kleptomaniac mother and an alcoholic father). She also a bullying object of her friends because she has a birthmark on her forehead which looks like poo. Yes she doesn't have any close friend, the closest one she has is Len Hislop, a feetless world war II veteran who has an agraphobia (afraid of world outside his house). One day  Mary decide to write a letter to a stranger in New York (she found the name and the address from the telephone book), and the stranger is Max. Max is a 44 years old, obesed, and has various mental illness (specifically one called the asperger). And because they have similar (but different) background (feel neglected, don't have any friend, and some sad sad life stories), they becoming best friend and writing each other for over than 20 years.

The storyline is just perfect. And the sad events just a real bad-sad. I don't want to spoil anything here, but I can guarantee this is just crazily an awesome movie (ever)! This movie taught me how to live with your imperfection and think of it not as a failure, and just like this movie tagline, sometimes perfect strangers make the best friends.

Besides the story which I really love, the other things that make me really into this movie are; the main item here is a pen-pal-connection, I love to write letters (I have so many pen-pals now inside and outside Indonesia) and this movie just provides me enough spirit to keep writing; this movie also made basically from clay and I am a pottery student, clay is my everyday partner and I am so much inspired by this movie; and yes true and truly, by watching this movie I feel like I should be more loving myself.

This movie will shows you 'the other side' of the happy ending. I never thought that an animation can really stole my heart, but this one is (indeed) stolen mine. If you believing me that much, please try to find this movie and start to watch it. I'd love to hear your story that you are loving this move as much as I do.

Your regards,
the amateur movie reviewer,
Lily

World provides me new friends :)

On the first week of June, I've got a pretty tiring yet fun job. I had to be an Liaison Officer (well it is easier to call it 'guide') to 3 chinese(s) from Yunnan University who joined the Asean +3 Educational Forum and Speaker Contest here in my campus, ITB. My job basically just took the participant from the hotel to the specific location at ITB and wait for them till they were finish with the schedule. But there was something I unsuspect, they must be want to take a look of (almost) everything here in Bandung; so yeah then my journey finally begun.

Day - 1 (June 3rd)
I picked my fellow Yunnan(ers) from the Husein Sastranegara Airport. They were consist of 3 beautiful young lady; Bi Yuan Yuan Laoshi (the lecturer, who is indeed looks very young!), Christina Lu, and Rita Bei. We arrived at the hotel around 5 pm, and got everyone ready at 6 pm because we dinner at the Padangnese restaurant which was Simpang Raya (located on the Dago Street).

Day 2 (June 4th)
I was ready at the hotel to pick the participants around 7 am. While waiting at the lobby, suddenly came the korean boy, Jeffry Wang (who is actually has chinese and malay descent--so he speaks chinese fluently and a little bit of bahasa); then they were chit-chatting (and they were sounds fun) in chinese. The agenda was the opening ceremony and stuffs, and they were finish around 3 pm and had the free time until dinner. The free time suppose to be the time for them to relax and rest, but in the other hand, they (included Jeffry and the other chinese lecture Mrs. Wu from the Guizhou Univ) asked me to take them to Jalan Braga. Then I took them there together with Jeffry's LO, Bangkit and Dyah. They shopped some souvenir and then off we back to the campus to had our dinner at the hall.

Day 3 (June 5th)
That was the day of the first round of the speaker contest, I took the Yunnan(ers) to the auditorium and gave the support to Rita who was the speaker for the Yunnan Univ. All day went by the contest and it ended again around 3pm. I was exhausted (besides the fact that we had to went sleep late and woke early) but I enjoyed it so much. The free time was given again before 6pm (for dinner). And yes of course my participants and Jeffry asked us (Bangkit, Dyah, and I) to take them somewhere; and because of their requested, inspite of our tired body, we took them around the factory outlets at Dago. Then at 6 pm, we were back and heading to Lisung Restaurant at Dago Pakar. The restaurant was great, especially the view, it has the city light beautiful view from up there and all the participants looked happy and enjoyed it very much. At that time also they announced the top 6 speakers to continued to the final round, unfortunately my participant didn't get the chance.

Day 4 (June 6th)
The only agenda that day was only the visit to the Saung Angklung Udjo; after that the participants had the free time. It was also the first time I went to Saung Angklung Udjo and watched the performances, and yes I love it so much, I will come back again to watch sometimes! After that we were back to hotel and ready to take our participants to hang out. Our personils added, consisted of 4 LOs, Bangkit, Dyah, Dinda (the Guizhou's LO), and me; and 4 participants, Christina, Jeffy, and 2 Guizhou's boys, Michael and AJ. Rita was out with the lecture and didn't join us. First we went to pasar baru, the boys was happily bought the Batik shirts for them and for souvenir, they're the heavy shoppers for real! It was crowded but the foreigners took them easy and didn't complain much. After that we went straight to PVJ mall. We went and try the ice skating, after that we had a really nice dinner at The Taste Restaurant (it was tasty and costly...), the participants paid for us thankfully :) We were planning to go on karaoke but didn't get the place... After that we went back to hotel and the day was done.

at the Taste after the hearthy dinner :)

Day 5 (June 7th)
It was the final round for speaker contest and the educational forum day. As usual we took the participant to the auditorium to watched the final round. It finished around 12, then we took the participants to the meeting room at comlabs and waited waited waited... While waiting, the LOs were practicing the dance for the farewell party. The forum finished around 6 pm and we were heading to a sundanese restaurant located at Sukajadi (well I forgot what the restaurant name is...). The food were great (well I am a big fans of sundanese food! especially empal!). Then we back at the hotel and chit chatted with the participants. I got a little bit of mandarin lesson from Michael, and really chinese language is total hard!!!!

Day 6 (June 8th)
I had to go to work from 8 am til 8pm, so I didn't participate the noon agendas (which was the other day for the educational forum). But luckily I made it to the farewell party. I gave my participants a bye-bye give and took pictures. After then we went on to the karaoke at Ciwalk together with the lecturers. We were singing like crazy and it was soooo much fun! We finished the karaoke around 1am, and we had to take the Guizhou's ready because they were leaving Bandung at 2.45 am by travel to Jakarta (their plane is take off at 9am). It was a really sad moment :( The Yunnan(ers) leaving on the next day and again I had to go to work so I can't with them at the airport.. But I already said goodbye and hopefully we will be still in touch :D

the participants and the LOs

Well more pictures later, I still too lazy to upload it all hoho! In general, I was really happy to got the chance to be an LO for this event! Now I have more friends not only from the other countries but also the technical student in ITB (well honestly I don't know that many people outside my faculty before). I am looking forward for any other opportunity to gaining friends and experiences :)

My life and random thought

Hello. My name is Lily, I am 21 years old. And yes it is 21-twen-ty-one; not longer an adolescent, but I still feel pretty weird to call myself an adult. 21 years is not a short time to live, I've experienced so many things; pain, sick, love, happiness, sadness, fucked up feeling, dissapointed, etc etc. But after all, eventho there are so many wretched things happen to me, I feel I am one of the most Saturnian person in the world.

I born to a hong-kong-nese father an a sundanese mother. My father was a clothing designer and my mother is (still) a crafty mama. I lived in a joyful dream when I was a little kid, I got anything I want; sometimes even I got something not fit with my age (like example. I got my first cell phone when I was 7 years old). But yes, just like in the drama or soap opera program in the television, some disasters occured, and I lost my 'opulence'. But I'm not gonna share more about those sappy thingy.

I grew into a justice seeker and a study oriented person in junior high. I didn't cheat, I did every single of my assignment fully hearty, I'm smart, good grades, teachers love me, participated in every organizations I could handle. That was the time I tried to be the best I can; well eventho that is not me (partially). However, with all of my achievements I've done, my Mom seems not pretty much impressed at all, or if she did, she was really good to hide it.

Then, I went to senior high school. On my tenth grade, I am still all I am was in my junior high; that time I wanted to be a doctor or an engineer, simple matter, doctors or engineers are pretty much get the high praise, and they're most likely rich. Then somehow, I don't know, on my 11th grade, I fell into  this 'wicked' way of life. I knew about the online games and stuffs. I started to skip school, wasted my money on game, played a lot, and fortunately I did draw more. At first, my mom didn't protest at all, my grades still fine, what I wasted is my own money, so she didn't find it disturbing, till I got a very bad grades on my second semester when I was in 11th grade. Actually my grade doesn't that bad, but all of my friends grade were going up and left me at the bottom three at the class rank; then I fucked up.

But it seems like fortune pretty much in affair with me, I got the scholarship to be an exchange student for a year, yap then I went to the United States. One year somewhere far away from my home I started to fixing my life, thinking more about my future, and so on. That time was my prime time for loving art; I live in a artsy family but never thought that it'll be my way of life. I drew so may pictures, captured so many photos, made computerize thumbnails, tried pottery, 3d sculpture, painting, etc, and I am in love. So then after I'm back to Indonesia, I made up my mind and really certain to take art and design major at the university, then again luck is always be my middle name, ITB accepted me, and I am officially an art student there.

Art isn't get that much praise here. But I am always proudly say that I am an art student, and yes, because of my pride, no one never try to put me down. When someone ask me what I want to do in the future I said "I want to be anything that I could enjoy my life with, and don't forget, I'll be successfull and hopefully rich so I can do anything I want." And I don't know why, nowadays anytime I meet my mom, she always show me how much she is pride of me.

The key is, do whatever you love to do the most fully hearty. Life is much more better and easier after you did :)

XoXo

A letter from Slovakia :)

Guess what, my sister when I was in the United States sent me a letter and I just got it this morning yeay! My sissy, Gabika is Slovakian, we lived together in the same house, same room, for almost a year, and of course we made a really good friend and I consider her more than a friend, she is my sister, ah let me make it clearer, she is the BEST sister I have :)

And this is the letter I've got :D

Well you may a lil bit confuse, isn't my birthday is on March? Why Gab wrote me a happy birthday? Okay let me explain, in the Slovak Republic, people likely to celebrate their birthday twice a year. First is the born day, second is the name day. So every single day in the calendar has a name, and a people who has that name celebrate the name day at those day. And at February 20nd was a day for peoples named 'Livia' so that day was my name day, that's why Gabi wrote me a 'Happy Birthday' :)

You may want to take a look how pretty my sister is :)

Isn't she looks so good????????? Hahaha, yes she is! And I am her sister! Don't get jealous :p

I love her, and I miss her so bad :( it is almost 2 years since we're back to our countries and after then we just communicate through internet... Ah I promise I'll come there someday (when I have the money of course), and Gab, please wait for my long long pretty letter! I love you so muuuuucccch!!!

Regards,
Lily

I feel what you feel

Thou told me something on the other day. Suppose to be shocking, eh? But if y'all wanna say that I'm a total fool, yes I am.

I don't care whoever thou are.

This is crazy, and I'm going insane just to start thinking about it. I may cry, I may shout, but it doesn't change anything. I still hold this stupid feeling.

I don't care thou hate me or not.

Because I do understand now how you're suffered from those heartache. Because I feel what you feel. And as long as I seeing a little happiness on thou's expression, I still have something precious to keep inside my heart.

This is a total insane, yes.

Planning a trip to Canada? Why not?

What is your plan for the next holiday? Stay at home? Doing sport? Go swimming? Or you might thinking about a big trip? So why don't you planning a trip to Canada?

Here I'm going to show you what is Canada, the culture, socio, history, and of course tourism in Canada. So, let's begin now!

1. What is Canada?
Canada is one of the countries which is located in Northern America. As you can see on the map, Canada territory marked by orange color, and yes, it is bigger than the United States, Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia.

Canada's flag is consisted of two colors, red and white, with a red maple leaf in the middle. The other name for Canada's flag is l'Unifolié (French for "the one leafed"). Why Canada's flag has a French name for it? Well it is because Canada is a bilingual country with multiculturalism, yes it means Canada has two national language, those are English and French, and people in Canada came from many countries in the world!

Random Artworks

Just wanna share my random artworks, which all of these are school tasks, either mine or I made it for my friends.
This is mine. Yea, my mosaic assignment from my art teacher. I honestly kinda lazy doing mosaic thingy, I prefer collage, so that's why I made my mosaic like this. It's not necessarily a mosaic tho, I stack magazine plaques with same size in different colors, and walla, I made her hair! I drew the face, and stick eyes and lips collage from magazine to create more dramatic effect. I did the background with watercolor and marker. And yea, I ain't love it.

And the most precious moments I had? The presents! A bunch of Hello Kitty stuff was gifted for me! Whoaaa I might just cry, I miss Arkansas :D I miss Hot Springs! Hawthorns! Gabi!

See you someday my American family!
